Malaysian AI Policy Glossary: AI-Rmap, AI-CIU, NAIO, AIGE, GAIS Explained

A plain-language reference to the acronyms and bodies that recur across Malaysian AI policy. Terms are listed roughly in the order they appear in the roadmap and the policy timeline.

Malaysian AI policy has passed through two institutional eras, and the vocabulary reflects the shift. The first era belongs to MOSTI and the AI-Rmap (2021–2025), which proposed a coordinating body, the AI-CIU, that was never established. The second begins with the creation of the Ministry of Digital in 2023 and the National AI Office (NAIO) in 2024, which now carries the national AI mandate forward into the AI Technology Action Plan 2026–2030. Many terms below mark the handover point between those two eras — where a roadmap-era concept was renamed, absorbed, or replaced.
